As an ACE EdVenture school, our objective is to always unleash the greatness within each child. We achieve this by gradually shifting away from theory-based academics and supporting our students in exploring the practical skills and knowledge they need for their future. How do our beliefs in Asia about the best methods for children’s learning differ in comparison? And, can we adopt some of the Finnish strategies to help our students in Malaysia succeed?

The Asian Culture

In Asian cultures, discipline is often used as the core to behaviour and academic learning - In essence, parents would give instructions and their kids just follow, dubbing this as ideal beaviour. A general assumption is that if parents prioritise kids emotional wellbeing, it compromises discipline. And if they have fun, serious learning cannot take place. While this approach has its perks, it compromises development of social-emotional wellbeing, confidence, self worth, and self esteem - and most of all, their curiosity!

The West

The Western Culture

In Western cultures (especially Finland), the emphasis of happiness and social-emotional wellbeing is rooted strongly in their approach towards education - allowing kids to develop strong empathy. From there, they are able to foster a sense of individualism, which develops their confidence, and ability to be outspoken.
